ASHTABULA, Ohio– The Ashtabula County Sheriff confirmed the body found Monday night is the mother of four who has been missing since Aug. 15.
Ashtabula County Sheriff Bill Johnson said deputies found Mandy Gottschalk’s body in a shallow grave off of Washington Avenue.
The two men arrested in connection with the case are expected to be formally charged on Wednesday.
“We would have loved a better outcome,” Johnson told Fox 8 Tuesday. “But this gets the family some closure. We arrested people who caused this death and that is the most important thing at this particular time.”
Family members said they are having a difficult time and want people to remember Gottschalk as a woman with a great sense of humor that loved her children.
“She was so funny to talk to,” said Allison Zoblisien, Gottschalk’s cousin. “She had four beautiful, beautiful children and she just loved them so much.”
Family and friends also said one of the suspect’s arrested helped them search for Gottschalk.
“She deserves justice,” Zobilsien said. “She didn’t deserve this to happen to her.”
Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing. Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification were at the home Tuesday searching for evidence. The sheriff said he is not sure if additional arrests will be made.
