WADSWORTH, Ohio — It’s the time of year you might expect to see a few reindeer making a visit, but instead, a black bear is once again creating buzz around northeast Ohio.

The Wadsworth Police Department confirmed there was a black bear sighting in the SE corner of the city on Thursday.

It was spotted in the Johnson Road/Silvercreek Road area.

The animal warden also located bear tracks nearby, police said.

Black bears are generally not aggressive, but you should avoid them if possible.

It is also illegal to hunt or trap a bear in Ohio.

The Wadsworth Police Department said if you see a bear, it is not necessary to contact the police unless the animal is aggressive, sick or injured, or if you believe the bear’s location poses a safety concern for people or vehicles.

Black bears have been spotted in several northeast Ohio neighborhoods over the past several months.

Witnesses reported the bears doing such things as ringing doorbells, disrupting garage sales, and perching in a tree.
