Berea-Midpark Middle School closed following social media threat

News

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – The Berea City School District announced Friday morning that one of its schools would not open following a threat.

Berea-Midpark Middle School received a social media threat late Thursday night, according to the district.

The threat is under investigation.

The school is being closed out of an abundance of caution.

The district is telling parents who have children in other BCSD schools to keep them home if they have safety concerns.

The district released the following statement Friday morning:

Last night around 11:45 our Berea-Midpark principal received an email from a student with a screenshot from Snapchat which contained a threat to BMMS and immediately contacted law enforcement.  Due to the timing of the notification, and out of an abundance of caution to allow local law enforcement to fully investigate, I made the decision to cancel classes at BMMS today.  All other BCSD schools are in session and parents were given the option to keep their children home if they were uncomfortable with this most recent situation.   We are currently working with the Middleburg Hts. police department in order to determine the source of the threat and will update our families and staff once we get new information.  As always, The safety of our students and staff is our first priority in any situation.
