With an excessive heat warning issued, cooling centers are open in places across Northeast Ohio.

The City of Akron is extending hours at its four community cooling centers this week. The community centers will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.

City of Beachwood’s Community Center will be open as a cooling station until 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Bottled water will be available.
Christ Presbyterian Church at 12419 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland will provide a cooling center for anyone in the community Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
City of Cleveland Neighborhood Resource and Recreation Centers will be open until 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The centers with extended hours include:

Oak Street Health said it’s providing cooling centers for community members. Oak Street Health is a network of primary centers for adults on Medicare.
The centers are open Monday through Friday.
The Eastlake Police Activities League is open until 8 p.m. Friday night.
Community Room A at the Medina Community Recreation Center, 855 Weymouth Road, has been opened as a cooling center for area residents who may not have air conditioning or need a break from the extreme heat. The room will be available from 11a to 6p on Thursday July 18, Friday July 19, Saturday July 20, and Sunday July 21. Those who are not Medina Recreation Center members or day pass holders will not be able to access the rest of the facility. These users will remain at Community Room A and have access to adjacent restrooms and drinking fountain. We hope all community members stay safe during this extreme heat advisory period.
Middleburg Heights Community Center will be kept open as a cooling center all weekend – day and night – through Sunday, July 21 at 8:00 pm.
Libraries across Portage County, Ohio, are open for residents needing relief from the high temperatures predicted for Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, 2019, announced the Portage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
The library buildings in Kent, Ravenna, Aurora, Streetsboro, Garrettsville, Randolph and Windham are open for normal business hours only. This sheltering accommodation will be provided at the locations and times listed below:

Portage Area RTA TRANSPORTATION KENT-RAVENNA
PARTA will be offering free rides to the Ravenna and Kent libraries while the facilities are open.
PARTA fixed routes will allow for transportation to the Kent Free Library on the Interurban line as well as to the Reed Memorial Library in Ravenna on the Raven 80 and 85 lines.
Riders must be prompt as if they would be normally riding these routes, as the standard operating times will remain in place.

The City will be operating a temporary cooling station at the old City Building at 222 Meigs Street from 11 a.m. -6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
Sandusky Transit will be providing free rides to get to the cooling station. The old City Building is on the STS Red Line.
