Police Chief Gary Haba says that there were shots fired outside the mall near Saks 5th Avenue at around 3 p.m.

According to police, a suspect was taken into custody. One adult male was transported to the hospital for a gun shot wound to the leg and is also in police custody. That suspect is in stable condition.

Police are currently investigating their relationship. It appears that the shooting happened after an altercation.

Haba said a short time later, police responded to another incident near the main entrance for a report of a shot fired.  A 17-year-old female was transported to a hospital where she was treated and released.

Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.

Haba was 99% sure the mall was secure at 5:17 pm but police were going store to store to verify that. Everyone that was in the mall has been accounted for.

Police departments from other cities assisted Beachwood in their efforts. Haba says this is a fairly normal occurrence in these circumstances.

An eyewitness on the scene at the mall reports that  storefront gates were lowered on all the stores, and the mall was evacuated. Stores were closed.

Other witnesses at the mall tell Fox 8's Allison Brown that when the alert was sent, dozens of people ran through the building seeking shelter - some in stores, some in restrooms.

Police anticipate that the mall will resume normal operations Sunday.
