EASTLAKE, Ohio-- The City of Eastlake now has a new tool to help get rid of the floodwaters that have been plaguing their neighborhoods.

They are calling it a flood response trailer; the fully-equipped trailer is Eastlake's answer to their flooding problems.

Eastlake's mayor says his city has four problem-areas that often get flooded.

"So once we get word that there's heavy rains and water is starting to build up in the these areas, we dispense this truck, this van here, with all the equipment in it and they set up in one area then they go to the next area, the next area then the next; and hopefully that's going to alleviate the water problems in those four particular problem areas," said Eastlake Mayor Ted Andrzejewski.

The trailer is equipped with five six-inch pumps and three two-inch pumps, an emergency generator and lighting, plus lots of hoses to get the floodwaters out.

"In the past, two of these got into a pickup truck they had to be dispersed; now they are all in one truck. Everything is contained in the trailer and we take it and we start at the worse sites and start moving out to areas that are heavily affected by these heavy downpours that we've been having," said Mike Semik, Eastlake’s service director.

Back in July, the south Riverview Drive neighborhood was one of the hardest hit by the floodwaters and people who live on the street say they like the idea of the rapid response trailer to keep the floodwaters out of their home.

"We need it here; like I said these people across the street from me have flooded out numerous times. It's their home," said Ken Kukwa of Eastlake.

Leroy Martin says the flooding problem has cost him thousands of dollars and hopes the city's response plan works.

"$18,000 worth. Really the last time my basement flooded, I had to replace everything and that's what it cost: $18,000," said Martin.

The response trailer has not been used yet and homeowners are hoping it stays that way.
