LAKEWOOD, Ohio — There was a battle of the sweets Sunday in Lakewood, all for a good cause.
The Cupcake Wars involved lots of cupcakes — which tasted best, which looked best and which were the most creative.
The event was organized to raise money for the Lakewood Animal Shelter and was held at The Sweet Spot in Lakewood.
Bakers were asked to bring at least 24 cupcakes to display and for tasting.
They were then judged on the following criteria: creativity of display and plating, flavor and texture and appearance or complexity of cupcake decor.
Those who were better at tasting than baking could also pay to sample and judge.
The grand winner of the event was Sarah Shuster-Tucker, who made mint chocolate cupcakes as a tribute to her adopted cat, Boo, according to the Citizens Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter
She adopted Boo from the Lakewood Animal Shelter in 2011.
All proceeds made from Sunday’s event will go right to the Lakewood Animal Shelter.
