NORTH CANTON, Ohio—The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in Stark County involving an all-terrain vehicle and a horse-drawn buggy, Fox 8 News reports.

The crash occurred Sunday at approximately 5:50 p.m. on Elton Street just west of Smith Road in Sugarcreek Township.

Jeremy Venables, of Brewster, was driving a 2012 Polaris RZR eastbound on Elton when he rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy driven by Joseph Hershberger, of Navarre. Following impact, Venables was ejected from the ATV, which had flipped. Hershberger was also ejected and then dragged several feet by the horses.

Venables, who was not wearing a helmet or using a safety belt, was taken to Affinity Medical Center with serious injuries. Hershberger sustained injuries, but was not transported.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities say alcohol appears to have been a factor.
