CLEVELAND — Cleveland police released photos of three armed robbers, accused of shooting and killing a store owner and shooting and injuring a clerk.
"Some guys just tried to rob him and shot the clerk and the owner," a Biggie’s employee, who did not want to be identified, told Fox 8 News.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who was killed as Mohammed Ismail, 48, of Cleveland. Ismail died at MetroHealth Medical Center after he was shot in the back.
“He had the gun on my head, but he pushed me out the way and shot my boss," the employee said.
A clerk was also being treated at the hospital after getting hit in the arm and torso.
The Cleveland Division of Police said three men went to Biggie’s at the intersection of E. 55th Street and Cedar Avenue around 3:52 a.m. Tuesday.
They first walked around the store then pulled out handguns in an attempt to rob the place, police said.
"You know what it is. That's all we heard him say; you know what it is," the employee said.
At least one customer was inside of the 24-hour convenience store and gas station during the incident.
"The owner and his son are really nice people. I wouldn't have ever seen this happening," former employee Chris Gates said.
