Police Arrest Suspect in Sheriff’s Deputy Dragging

MANSFIELD, Ohio – Police have arrested the man wanted for dragging a sheriff’s deputy with his car.

Russell Owens, Jr., 37, was taken into custody Saturday at a home on Prescott Street after police received a tip.

According to Sergeant Michael Viars from Richland County, Owens tried to drive off during a traffic stop on Friday, while Viars was hanging on.

Sergeant Viars suffered minor injuries and is back on the job.

Owens remains behind bars at the Richland County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday on charges of felonious assault on a police officer.
