At least two people are in custody in two separate social media threats against area schools.

The threats are not thought to be related to each other.

Thursday, a post was made on social media threatening the safety of students and staff at Euclid High School and Central Middle School, according to police.

Students were not evacuated, and classes were not canceled. But a school spokesperson said there were extra officers at the schools as a precaution, and students were permitted to go home without penalty.

Police would not confirm any arrests yet in the threat.

Meanwhile, officials with the Cleveland Heights School District also said Thursday they received an anonymous message on social media of a threat against the high school.

A student who wrote the post was taken into custody, according to the alert.

"The threat did not appear to be credible, but the district and police department take all threats seriously," the district said in an alert on its website. "As a result, we immediately increased the presence of police and school security at the high school."

Classes there also were not canceled.

"Please know that if we believed our students or staff faced any real danger today, we would not have kept school open," the alert states.

In Shaker Heights, a 15-year-old female student was arrested in connection with social media threats made Wednesday against the high school in that community.

According to the Shaker Heights Local Schools website, the student admitted to making the post and there was no indication she had the means or ability to carry out the threats she posted.

Classes there were not canceled Wednesday or Thursday, and the security staff was put on special alert.
