PETALUMA, California – Amy’s Kitchen, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 74,000 cases of its frozen foods that contain organic spinach because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

In a press release, the company says that one of their organic spinach suppliers notified them that some of their greens may have been contaminated with the virus, which can cause serious or fatal illnesses in the young, frail or elderly as well as those with weak immune systems. Listeria infection can  also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,

The company says it is not aware of anyone becoming ill yet, but out of an “abundance of caution”, they are recalling the products.  The list of food includes the 8 pack of spinach pizza, garden vegetable lasagna, the tofu scramble and brown rice and vegetable bowls. They were sold throughout Canada and the United States.
