Power back on in Amherst after widespread outage

AMHERST, Ohio– Thousands were without electricity in the Amherst area on Wednesday.

The Amherst Police Department said the city was dealing with a widespread power outage and FirstEnergy was working on it. The department encouraged people to check on friends, family and neighbors to ensure they are staying warm.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Police Chief Joseph Kucierk said power was restored.

At about 8 p.m., FirstEnergy said there are 112 customers in Amherst, 751 in Amherst Township and 738 in South Amherst without power.

As a reminder, do not call police dispatchers for information on power outages.
