CHESTERLAND, OH -- After undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation, Alpine Valley Ski Resort opened up its slopes Saturday.

The weather couldn't get any better as skiers jumped on the slopes in Chesterland.

"It's a perfect day and she couldn't be more excited. I really came with my four -year-old granddaughter to teach her to ski today," said Steve Peck of Munson.

Back in April, Alpine Valley started a $2.5  million dollar renovation process and now, the resort is ready for business.

"We've done a lot of work, so Alpine Valley has gone through an amazing transformation and now that we've got things ready to go, we decided to open as soon as possible," said Josh Boyd, General Manager of Alpine Valley.

To make sure Alpine Valley has plenty of snow, the resort tripled its snow making ability by buying 23 more snow making guns. Now, they have 33 to make snow faster and easier when they need it most.

"We made snow for the last four days and that's what we've been able to accomplish so we could get open and right now, very pleased with the way everything is going" said Boyd.

In addition to all the snow, there are the two new chairs lifts to get skiers to the top of the hill. One of the new attractions at Alpine Valley is what they are calling the magic carpet ride; a conveyor belt that takes people up the beginner hill.

Skiers say they are on board with the new piece of equipment.

"I think it's awesome. I grew up here and I skied here as a kid and coming now as an adult is very, very good. Great improvements, especially this hill for beginners," said Mary Francis of Chagrin Falls.

"I like the conveyer belt personally, it is for a bunny hill but it is a great way to get up and down the hill," said Joe Monaco, of Chesterland.

The resort's new tubing hill was not open Saturday and Alpine staffers say it should be open by next week when they make more snow.
