RAVENNA, Ohio– The man granted a retrial in the death of a Kent State University student was found guilty again.

A jury returned the verdict against Adrian Barker Thursday morning.

Barker, 25, was convicted of taking part in the beating death of Christopher Kernich, a 23-year-old Kent State University business student, in November 2009.

Barker was convicted in 2010 of felony murder, murder and felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

A state appeals court ruled that Barker should be given a new trial because the court “did not apply the proper legal standard for determining whether lesser included offense instructions were required.”

Barker was re-sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in prison.
