AKRON-- Police say Ah'Jia Lollis, 7, was riding her scooter down Welsh Avenue in Akron when a neighbor's rottweiler got loose and attacked her.
"I'm in the midst of making hamburgers and I just take off running. And when I get there, the dog physically has my baby by the back of her head with her on her stomach trying to drag her back to his house," said Kimberly Lollis, mother.
According to Ah'Jia's mother, the girl suffered bites to her head, neck, stomach and armpit.
She remains in serious condition at Akron Children's Hospital.
"It's making me shake right now. It is something. It remind me of Cujo the movie. Horrific. And for it to happen to a sweet little girl who was right outside in her yard just playing," cried Lollis.
Wednesday, police charged the dog's owner, Harvey Leek, 53, with having a vicious dog and failure to control the dog.
The dog was put down Wednesday morning at the Summit County Animal Control Ward.
Meantime, Ah'Jia's mother had a message for dog owners everywhere.
"I don't care if it's a little dog, big dog. You have to be out there checking on the dog. Kids are starting to play; it's summer. And if we don't get a handle on these vicious animals, a lot more children will be in Children's Hospital near death," said Lollis.
Leek faces a hearing next week.
Police said the dog was properly licensed and had all his shots up to date.
