7-year-old girl shot in drive-by shooting

CLEVELAND- The Cleveland Division of Police First District Detective Bureau is investigating the shooting of a 7-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man.

It happened Monday around 10:30 p.m. in the area of W.100 and Loretta.

Police say the victims were at a gas station at W.106 and Belair when 22-year-old Xavier Collins got into an argument with another man.

When Collins and the little girl drove away from the gas station, they were followed by the suspect.

According to police, Collins said the suspect began shooting at him and the child, striking them both in the leg once.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a maroon Ford or Mercury.

Both Collins and the little girl were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment. Upon his release from the hospital, Collins was arrested for a narcotics violation.

The little girl, who is the daughter of the woman Collins is dating, is still receiving treatment at the hospital, according to police.
