ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) – A driver has been charged in a hit and run in Elyria that left a young boy hospitalized Tuesday evening.

According to the Elyria Police Department, the five-year-old boy was hit by a silver Ford Focus while crossing Bath Street around 5:42 p.m. The driver then left the scene.

The child was life-flighted to University Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. He has since been treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be released Wednesday.

On Wednesday, police took the suspected driver, 27-year-old Christopher Allgood, into custody. He’s charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and driving with a suspended license.

Allgood is being held on bond until his first appearance in Elyria Municipal Court.
