The Indians won their 5th in a row on Tuesday night with a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Progressive Field.
Cleveland jumped on Boston starter Jake Peavy in the bottom of the first, plating 3 runs, thanks to 5 singles.
Michael Brantley singled in the first run; Lonnie Chisenhall drove home the second on a single; and Ryan Raburn grounded into a double play which brought home the third run for a 3-0 lead.
Boston’s Xander Bogaerts hit a solo homer off starter T.J. House, who went 5 and 2 thirds innings but did not figure in the decision.
Boston got another run off House in the 6th. Jonathan Herrera drove in Jonny Gomes for the visitors’ second run.
In the top of the 7th inning, Dustin Pedroia doubled in the tying run for a 3-3 game.
Cleveland reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 7th. Michael Bourn doubled in Yan Gomes and Mike Aviles for a 5-3 Cleveland lead.
The bullpen got things done after Scott Atchison blew the lead in the top of the 6th.
Nick Hagadone pitched 1 and 1 thirds innings to get the win, while Cody Allen registered four outs to earn his 5th save of the year.
Cleveland goes for the sweep on Wednesday night.
