CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio -- Prosecutors have filed 437 charges against 43 juveniles for their participation in gang-related crimes while housed in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.

According to prosecutors, on June 10 they submitted a complaint against the suspects, who are allegedly members of the Heartless Felons gang. It was started by juvenile offenders from Cuyahoga County in 2000.

The complaint includes charges of participating in a criminal gang and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity against all 43. The remaining charges span crimes including conspiracy, robbery, kidnapping and aggravated riot.

Even before the complaint was filed, the suspects had nearly 500 prior delinquencies or pending charges on their records. Those included many violent offenses including aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated murder.

“It is time to get the Heartless Felons out of the Detention Center so that young people who might benefit from a structured, safe environment have a chance to set their lives on a better path,” said First Assistant County Prosecutor Duane Deskins, who is also chief of the Juvenile Division.

The complaint is the result of a six-month investigation.
