WICKLIFFE, Ohio- The cause of death of a 2-month-old Cleveland girl has been released by the medical examiner’s office on Wednesday.
Police said an 11-year-old girl beat 2-month-old Zuri Whitehead at Wickliffe apartment on Feb. 2. The baby was taken to University Hospitals Case Medical Center, where she died.
According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, Whitehead died of blunt impacts to her head, neck, trunk and extremities. She also suffered internal injuries. The manner of death was ruled homicide.
Wickliffe Police Chief Randy Ice said Whitehead was staying with the babysitter. When the woman fell asleep, her 11-year-old daughter took the baby to a different room and beat her, police said.
The 11-year-old appeared in court on Monday and is being held without bond on murder charges. She will undergo mental evaluations at the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center. Her mother has not been charged.
