WELLINGTON, Ohio — An Ashland University student involved in a crash with three other students has died, according to school officials.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Quarry Road and state Route 18 in Wellington Township.

Troopers said a Ford pick-up truck collided with a Subaru carrying the four Ashland University students.

Students Madeline Humphery, Paige Gorsuch and Rose Sepsey were in serious condition Saturday night, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Andrew Keim, of Millersburg, died from his injuries, according to the university.

The driver of the Ford, Mark Zacharias, and his wife, Elizabeth, were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center and are expected to make a full recovery.

Troopers have not said what exactly happened to cause the vehicles to collide.

According to an email sent to university staff and students, Keim's sister announced at a prayer vigil Saturday night that her brother had died.

The email stated that she "honored Andrew as a giving person in life and that he continued to give in his passing as an organ donor."

Information regarding grief counseling and spiritual support for students will soon be released, according to the email.

Meanwhile, a woman who lives near the intersection where the crash happened said it's a bad corner.

"We've had accidents here before," said Holly Storrow. "We've come to expect it."

Storrow said that drivers have been deceived at the intersection before.

"Sometimes the way the roads meet the buildings, on certain angles you just can't see a car coming,” she said. "Every couple of months, maybe somebody goes off the road, somebody misses a stop sign."

Troopers said it's unknown if those involved were wearing seat belts or if alcohol was involved.

The crash is still being investigated.
