BARBERTON, Ohio -- A 15-year-old Norton boy was killed and two other teens were hurt early Thursday when their car crashed down an embankment during a police pursuit.
At about 4:46 a.m., New Franklin Police Department was in pursuit of the vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, with three people inside. As the vehicle entered Barberton, Barberton officers saw it traveling at a high rate of speed through the intersection of Van Buren and Robinson avenues.
Barberton officers attempted to follow the Impala and found it crashed at the curve three blocks away.
Police say the Impala had failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway and struck and took out a telephone pole before crashing down an embankment.
One occupant, Seth Pallone, 15, of Norton, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. The two other occupants, a 14-year-old male from Barberton, and a 14-year-old male from Springfield Township, were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Officer Martin Eberhart, with Barberton police told FOX 8 News, "People have to understand during the chase officers don't know it's a 15 year old and we don't know why people are running... But when it ends up being teenagers it's always a tragic situation"
The crash is still under investigation.
