EASTLAKE, Ohio — Two schools were placed on lock-down after a 13-year-old tried but failed to rob a Circle K at knife-point Friday.
It happened at just before 8:30 a.m. at the Circle K on Lake Shore Boulevard in Eastlake.
Police responded to reports that a male had brandished a knife and tried to rob the store. Eastlake Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School were immediately placed on lock down due to the proximity and seriousness of the incident, police say.
An unmarked unit was nearby at the time and saw a male on a green bike matching the description provided by witnesses. He was taken into custody without incident.
The 13-year-old admitted that he was the person who robbed the store. He said he went there with intentions of taking money. He entered the store, picked up a few items of food and went to the counter.
The cashier began to interact with him, and he pulled out a knife, opened the blade and demanded money. The cashier said ‘no,’ according to police.
The boy became irritated and fled from the store on his bike.
The juvenile was charged with one count of aggravated robbery and was taken to the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
The schools were released from lock down after about 20 minutes.
