MANSFIELD, Ohio — One man was injured and transported to the hospital after a school bus collided with an SUV Monday afternoon.
The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says a Madison Local Schools bus was traveling eastbound around 3:45 p.m. and approaching an intersection on Hull and Mansfield Washington Roads when it slid on loose gravel. A 2002 PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on Mansfield Washington Rd. when it spotted the bus and attempted to stop.
Authorities say the bus then made a left turn onto Mansfield Washington Rd., striking the left front of the PT Cruiser with the left rear wheel area of the school bus.
The PT Cruiser was towed from the scene with extensive damage.
The 53-year-old school bus driver and seven elementary school children on board were not injured in the crash. The 63-year-old driver of the PT Cruiser complained of head pain and was transported to Mansfield Med-Central by EMS. Two other passengers in the PT Cruiser were not injured in the collision.
All parents were informed of the crash.
The school bus driver was cited for failure to control his vehicle following the accident.
