“Underdogs,” an independent film shot in Canton, Ohio, is set to hit the big screen Friday, Aug. 16 in select Ohio theaters.

It has been a success at film festivals across the country.

The film won the Local Heroes Competition at The Cleveland Film Festival and was chosen for the Phoenix Newport Beach Film Festivals.

The award-winning film takes place in rural Ohio, the birthplace of football.

It tells the story of a small-town high school football team destined to play their cross-town rival, a perennial powerhouse.

Theaters featuring the film Friday will be Cinemark Tinseltown in Canton and two theaters in Columbus.

Movie-goers will receive a ballot to vote for any Ohio high school of their choosing.

The school with the most votes will win $3,000 and a private screening of the movie at the school.

The school that finishes in second place will receive $2,000 in prize money to be used at the school.
