Study: More parents choosing child’s school based on ‘insufficient information’

According to new research, parents are choosing schools with the most impressive graduates — instead of which schools teach the best.

The Atlantic reports that a working paper titled “Do Parents Value School Effectiveness?” shows parents prefer a school nearby that has higher scores when it comes to state tests, SATs and ACTs as well as higher high school graduate records and college enrollment.

However, economics found schools that enroll a lot of high achievers aren’t necessarily the most effective.
