Plugged In: Libraries Still Valued in Communities

Information that could once only be found in a library is now available by picking up the closest smartphone or tablet, but according to a study by the Pew Research Center, Americans still value libraries in their communities.

Most participants said libraries improve quality of life, promote literacy and a love of reading, and give people a chance to succeed by providing resources.

Thirty-four percent of those surveyed said libraries have not done a good job keeping up with new technology.

About half of the people said public libraries aren’t as necessary now because the information can be obtained in other ways.
