Study: Breastfeeding can save lives of more than 800,000 infants per year

Moms have been nursing their babies since the dawn of time, but we’re constantly learning more and more benefits of breastfeeding. reports that researchers have now found that breastfeeding can save more than 800,000 infant lives every year. That amounts to about 13 percent of all childhood deaths under two years old.

Researchers have also found that breastfeeding can prevent 20,000 maternal deaths from breast cancer each year.

The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding until at least age two. However, research shows that children in low and middle-income countries will only be breastfed for six months.
