A state lawmaker in New York wants to block food stamp purchases of luxury items.

According to The Journal News, a state senator introduced a bill this week that would further restrict the types of products that can be bought with state-issued food stamps.

The bill targets foods like steak and lobster, and it appears to be popular with Republicans in the state senate.

The New York State Assembly is controlled by Democrats, so the bill likely doesn’t have much of a chance to advance.
