SYDNEY, Australia — A new kind of cemetery is being designed in Syndney, Australia — and it could mean the end of gravestones.
It’s called the Acacia Remembrance Sanctuary, and designers say it’s “changing how we celebrate death.”
The idea is to have visitors walk amongst trees and wildlife rather than headstones in more of a “remembrance park.” Designers say it could make cemeteries a more pleasant place to visit.
There would be a walkway through a natural area with birds and wildlife. There would also be a linear walkway that leads visitors to a giant garden and gathering place where ceremonies and services would be held.
Visitors would be able to explore the property and be guided by GPS electronic mapping technology to where their loved one is buried.
