When it comes to sunscreen, you don't have to spend big bucks on name brands.
Dr. Jennifer Lucas, Cleveland Clinic dermatologist, says it's more important to pay attention to SPF and look for the words "broad spectrum" on the label.
She recommends at least a 30 SPF and says sunscreens with "broad spectrum" will protect against UVA and UVB, the two types of dangerous sunlight rays.
Children can use adult sunscreens, Dr. Lucas said. If your children have sensitive skin, then look for ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide which can make sunscreen less irritating to the skin.
Dr. Lucas said you should apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before going out into the sun and you should reapply at least every two hours. If you sweat or swim, you should reapply more often.
Dr. Lucas also recommends using a lotion for your first round of sunscreen. She said it is easier to make sure you covered all of your skin with a lotion. She said reapplying can be done with a spray.
