LAKEWOOD, Ohio — More than 70 boats made of cardboard were launched in the Lakewood High School swimming pool on Wednesday for an entertaining test of physics.
Fox 8’s own Kenny Crumpton and Scott Sabol participated with their homemade entry.
They claimed they used “calculus and super computers from D.C.” to develop their design.

Other students relied on the lessons learned in class.
“We used Archimedes Principle to make sure 60 percent of the boat was submerged and just a lot of tape and love,” said one student.

The Cardboard Boat Regatta is a 400 point project accounting for 25 percent of the students’ fourth quarter grade.
There must be two students per boat who use paddles to span the pool without tipping or sinking.
Students bring their own flare to the competition by dressing up in themed costumes. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles participated, as did the Men in Jorts.
Five boats from Lincoln Elementary also hit the water.
The competition was sponsored by Tavens Packaging and Display Solutions.
The company donated $1,500 to the physics program.
