CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo opens the new Daniel Maltz Rhino Reserve and Fox 8’s Kenny Crumpton spent the morning at the zoo getting a sneak peek.

The new Rhino Reserve doubles the space for the black rhinos and offers special features like a mud wallow and logs so the rhinos can get a back scratch.

The exhibit was celebrated later in the afternoon with a ribbon cutting. 

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo plans to reopen to the public on Wednesday, June 17.

The zoo has been closed for nearly three months in accordance with the state’s orders.

Upon reopening, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will continue to follow guidelines and best practices from the state and CDC to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will provide an update on safety precautions in place to the public prior to their reopening.
