Many people already consider it a holiday.
Now a petition has been created to convince the Obama administration to declare a national holiday on a day of celebration, hope and rebirth — Opening Day.
“MLB Opening Day is more than just the beginning of the season. It’s a symbol of rebirth. The coming of spring. The return of America’s national pastime. It’s a state of mind where anything is possible,” the petition reads.
St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith and Budweiser are heading up the effort and encouraging fans to support the cause, Fox News reported.
Individuals have until March 26 to add their name. A total of 100,000 signatures are needed for the White house to review the proposal.
