PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Students at LaMuth Middle School in Painesville Township truly had something to celebrate at their latest pride assembly. The 6th and 7th graders are proud to be this week's Fox 8 Cool School.

In the classroom, there is an emphasis on core subjects, like reading, writing and arithmetic. Principal Chris Rateno said they have a team philosophy at LaMuth.

"It's students, not subject-first curriculum that we deliver," he said.

There are different teaching techniques that, according to students, make learning fun. The hands-on equations class has students using pawns and dice to figure out algebra problems. And, in science class, Fox 8 saw 7th graders learning to dissect an earthworm.

Also, good citizenship is promoted and rewarded at LaMuth Middle School. Tiara Taylor earned a $50 Best Buy gift card by following the five Ps: being prompt, prepared, polite, productive and proud.

"It is important because you always need to be prepared for class, polite to others and proud that it is your school. And, keep it neat and clean," Tiara added.

Great teachers and students and a good sense of school pride, that's what makes LaMuth Middle such a cool school.
