ASHTABULA - Lakeside High in Ashtabula is a large school with one main goal: to meet the needs of all learners. This is the first year for the Freshmen Academy, to help ninth graders transition to high school. “The peer coaching is upper classmen helping the under classmen with anything they need -- whether it being academics or social life," Senior Mikayla Lesnick explained.

While there are the traditional classes at Lakeside, students have a unique opportunity to take Japanese as their foreign language. "It's very different. Most schools don't have Japanese. They offer things like Spanish, French or German. I think since we do a lot of business with Japan, it could open up a lot of job opportunities for young people," Senior Teresa Rivera said.

The Fine Arts flourish at Lakeside High: from the signature sound of the band, to the opportunity to play a 1927 theatre organ, to being part of the only school orchestra in Ashtabula County. "My class is going to be the first graduating class here at lakeside for the orchestra and it's really cool that we're actually the only orchestra in the county," Senior Carolyn Garcia added.

Lakeside High also offers a number of electives like media arts and art classes that give students ways to express their creativity. “We recently won the ACMC mural contest for their pediatric wings, so that's going to be starting soon. And, the American Legion chose us to do an outside mural on their building," Senior Jazmine Kvitko said.

Senior Quindon Harris sums up what really makes Lakeside High a Cool School. “It's the diversity of all our students and peers we have here. And, it's also the wide range of opportunities you have here," he said.
