CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Chagrin Falls High School is high in energy, enthusiasm and rich with tradition. Many of the home Tigers are lifelong students who have followed in their family's footsteps.
Senior Lauren Lang sees it as a great school in a great community. “It's very close-knit. Everyone knows each other. We're very stellar in academics. All the students strive for their best,” she added.
The district is known for its academic achievements. It has received a state rating of “Excellent with Distinction” for 13 straight years. These are students who want to succeed. Principal Steven Ast said that comes with great students and staff. "We have great kids. They come from great families and this is such a strong community. And when you combine that with a very well-trained, well-educated, hard-working group of teachers, you're going to have great results,” Principal Ast said.
Chagrin Falls students are also making their mark in music. A select acapella choir is just one of the school's performance groups. The members of this choir also sing in another group or play an instrument in the band or orchestra.
Physical Education is a priority here. The idea of the school’s "Smart Kids Move Initiative” is students who are more active, achieve more. PE Teacher Pamela Malone said incorporating physical activity into the students’ daily schedule is like creating miracle growth for the brain. “That's how we look at physical education -- creating miracle growth for the brain. So, we're making a smarter, healthier, more productive student,” Malone added.
Notable graduates of Chagrin Falls High School include comedian Tim Conway, NFL Player Brian Robiskie and Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Diana Munz.
Noted for its excellence in Academics, Athletics and The Arts, Chagrin Falls High adds one more accolade as this week's Fox 8 "Cool School."
