PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - Brady Middle School in Pepper Pike is this week’s Fox 8 Cool School. It is the home of the Lions where they are especially proud of their Effective Leadership Academy and the personal approach to learning. "We are allowed to take our own approach to things, put our own flair on things. We are given assignments to do. We can do them in a way we want to that expresses our creativity," 8th grader Jake Marchewitz said.
The school's Pride Program is integrated into the curriculum. It involves a daily small group instruction and discussion of personal growth. “Giving lessons on the seven habits of highly effective teens and things to be successful at school, as well as in the real world," school librarian Betsy Lee said. And 7th grader Kennedy Vickers added, "We're just learning about different ways of becoming a better leader, how to set smart goals for real life decisions."
Brady Middle has become a one-to-one technology school. All students use chrome books in the classroom. "I think it makes a huge difference in our learning that we can have the same set of documents and files anywhere we go. And, it really improves how quickly we can do things," Jake added.
At Brady Middle School, students follow a motto or a way of being: To learn, to lead, to make a difference. And, many students find they can make a difference by being involved in extra-curricular clubs and activities. “I'm in Youth and Government, which is a program that's run through the Ohio YMCA, and it allows students from Middle Schools and High schools to go down to the State House in Columbus for the weekend and present bills that they want to be passed in their community," 8th grader Emma Briskin said.
It was 7th grader Maren Rosenberg who summed up why Brady Middle is worthy of being named a Fox 8 Cool School. “Brady Middle is a cool school because we're all unique and we get to show that and we're all diverse which a cool thing is really," she said.
