Kristi Capel

Kristi is excited to be at Fox 8! She co-anchors with Wayne Dawson and Stefani Schaefer on ‘Fox 8 News In the Morning.’

Kristi started at Fox 8 co-hosting with David Moss on our show ‘New Day Cleveland.’

Kristi grew up in Northern Kentucky, graduating from Heritage Academy; but, she does have some roots here in Cleveland. Her father grew up in Bedford and graduated from Bedford High School. Kristi’s grandparents owned a store in Bedford called, ‘Capel’s Country Corner,’ which some of you may remember.

While in college, she had a great opportunity to intern in Cincinnati, Ohio, at WCPO. In her senior year, she landed a second internship at KSPR News in Springfield, Missouri, where she began her first job as a reporter. After a few short months of covering fires, accidents, and local events, they were in need of a weekend weather anchor, so she jumped in the driver’s seat and began her weather career. From there, she continued in Northeast and Central PA as the morning and midday Meteorologist.

In 2001, Kristi moved to Missouri on a volleyball scholarship to attend Evangel University, earning a degree in Broadcasting & Communications along with Public Relations. After graduating from college, she won the title of ‘Miss Missouri USA 2006,’ and had a wonderful opportunity to represent Missouri at the ‘2006 Miss USA Pageant.’

Spring of 2007 was filled with months of training for Cincinnati’s ‘Flying Pig Marathon.’ A distance of 26.2 miles was quite an accomplishment, and maybe with a little free time down the road she’ll put her running shoes back on. Kristi was awarded “The Times Leader’s 40 Under Forty,” for successful individuals who have excelled in their professions and communities in Northeast & Central PA.

Kristi loves getting involved in the community whenever she gets the chance. She’s been a part of ‘Go Red For Women,’ ‘Children’s Miracle Network,’ and the ‘American Diabetes Association.’

Being a part of the community in Northeast Ohio is such an honor, and she is looking forward to experiencing all that Cleveland has to offer. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending her free time with family, soaking up the sun in the summer, reading, studying weather, working out, running 5k’s, snow skiing and watching football with her husband.
