Jen Steer is a web producer at Fox 8 News in Cleveland, writing stories for fox8.com, planning social media strategy and curating homepage content.

She spent a year as a community engagement specialist for the Northeast Ohio Media Group, representing cleveland.com, The Plain Dealer and Sun News.

For four years, Jen web produced at NewsChannel5 in Cleveland, where she won several awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Associated Press. She also received an Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of serial killer Anthony Sowell.

In 2013, Jen helped break the news that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were found alive in the Cleveland house of Ariel Castro. She discussed the kidnappings live with Anderson Cooper on CNN, appeared on BBC’s morning show and provided updates to radio stations around the globe.

Jen studied broadcast journalism at Kent State University and graduated in 2008.

  • Akron officials address recent homicides, gun violence

    AKRON, Ohio– There have six homicides in the city of Akron since July 5 and the city is asking for the public’s assistance located those responsible. Over the July 5 to July 9 weekend, there were nine shootings in the city, resulting in four deaths. At the same time, police arrested eight people for weapons offenses unrelated to those shootings.     AKRON, Ohio– A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in Akron Sunday night. The incident happened Copley Road and Noah Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said the victim, identified as Tyrone Phelps, was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
