Proposed bill in Texas would ban residents from using food stamps on soda, energy drinks, junk food

News 4 San Antonio reports that the bill would also ban people from any drinks, excluding coffee, with 54 milligrams of caffeine or more per eight fluid ounces.

Any sweetened or carbonated beverage, some potato or corn chips, cookies and candies would also be included. Users could still buy fruit or vegetable juices.

The bill was filed by Rep. Brisco Caine, of Baytown, Texas.
