JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Rescue workers in South Africa pulled a newborn baby from a storm drain.

The operation took four hours.

You can hear witnesses cheering as the baby is pulled to safety.

The group Rescue Care Paramedics says emergency responders went to the scene on Monday after residents heard a baby crying.

Police are investigating who dumped the baby.

South African media say the infant is being treated in a hospital.
