Crews responding to gas leak in Massillon

MASSILLON, Ohio– Emergency crews responded to a gas leak in Massillon Tuesday morning.

A contractor was working on a Dominion Energy Ohio station on Southway Street SW and hit the line, a spokesman for the company said.  Dominion Energy said crews have shut off the gas, and are beginning to make repairs.

Fresh Mark which is across the street, was evacuated, according to Dominion.

The company, however, told FOX 8 News they have been “unaffected” by the gas leak.

“Our employees are safe and have not been evacuated. Authorities have communicated to us that it is safe to keep operations running as normal. The safety of our employees is our top priority. We thank all of the personnel who are working to address the ongoing situation,” the company said in a statement.

Massillon City Schools said it is monitoring the situation and students who live in the evacuated area will be taken to Franklin Elementary School. These parents will be notified and must bring an ID.
