Child killed, several people injured in two-vehicle accident in Auburn Township

AUBURN TOWNSHIP, Ohio --A child was killed and several people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Auburn Township at around 3:12 p.m. Monday.

The Geauga County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on Washington Street at Munn Road.

According to police, a Ford Escape was traveling south on Munn Road and a Honda Accord was traveling east on Washington Street.  Police said both vehicles collided in the intersection and the Honda was pushed into a pole and utility box.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Fire were on scene assisting.

Authorities told FOX 8 News, when they arrived, several people were trapped.

Five patients were taken to area hospitals -- four from one vehicle and one from the other.

The woman driving the Ford sustained minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

The Honda contained a woman driver, another woman passenger and had two children in car seats in the backseat. One of the children sustained fatal injuries and the other was airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for life-threatening injuries.

The names of the victims will be released at the conclusion of the investigation, according to OSHP.

The highway patrol said this crash is still under investigation,  Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Chardon Patrol Post.
