17-year-old shot and killed on Cleveland’s east side

CLEVELAND– Cleveland police on Tuesday afternoon released more information about the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy earlier in the day.

It happened in the area of Sophia Avenue and Woodhill Road at around 11:40 a.m.

The Cleveland Division of Police said the boy suffered a gunshot wound. He was driven to MetroHealth Buckeye Health Center then taken to University Hospitals, where he passed away from his injuries.

According to police, while on-scene, officers learned the victim along with two friends were meeting an unknown male on Sophia Avenue. The victim was last seen going to the backyard to meet the suspect when a shot was heard.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
