Police searching for driver of vehicle in crash that killed pedestrian in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Police are searching for the suspect in a crash that killed a pedestrian in Cleveland Tuesday night.

According to Cleveland police, it happened at just after 11 p.m. at East 71st and Fleet Avenue.

At the time, a 20-year-old woman was driving a 2016 Chevrolet and was stopped in traffic at the red light in the eastbound lane of Fleet Avenue at the East 71st Street intersection.

A 38-year-old woman, and a 22-year-old man were walking west on the north sidewalk of Fleet Avenue, east of East 71st Street.

An unknown vehicle driving east on Fleet Avenue went to the right of the Chevrolet, side-swiping the right front corner.

The Chevrolet then operated out of control through the East 71st Street intersection, went off the left side of the road and hit a fence on the northeast corner of Fleet Avenue and East 71st Street.

The Chevrolet continued east and hit the 38-year-old female, who was pronounced dead at the hospital.


The suspect's vehicle is described as being possibly gray or white with left side and front damage.
