BARBERTON, Ohio — Parents of students in the Barberton City School District have the choice of keeping their child home from class today after “inappropriate comments” were posted on social media.

According to a post on the Barberton City School District Facebook page, the comments were made over the weekend. The district said police are investigating and are in “pursuit of a suspect.”

Police told Fox 8 News that while there have been reports of threats circulating on different social media sites, authorities “have found no credible threat at this time.”

Authorities and the district did not provide specifics regarding the comments.

The school district emphasized that apps and websites that some believe are anonymous are actually not.

Data is constantly being recorded on the Internet, and often available to law enforcement,” the post states. “Please be mindful of this reality when posting, and make sure your students know to be safe online and off line.”
