How's this for a nice early Christmas present for skiers?

Alpine Valley in Chesterland opened early Thursday so kids could hit the slopes on this snow day.

Lots of people including kids who had a day off school took advantage of the early opening. You might remember there was an unusually warm December last year, so this opening is two weeks earlier than last season.

Over 20 inches of natural snow have covered the slopes over the past couple weeks and that allowed the resort to open its lifts and runs.

Boston Mills-Brandywine opens Friday.

Between the three resorts there are 26 trails of various skill, two snow tubing parks, five terrain parks, and four beginner areas.
