CLEVELAND — A former two-sport athlete at Case Western Reserve University will serve 26 years in prison for a string of robberies he committed in northeast Ohio.

Twenty-nine-year-old Dawud Wilson was sentenced to serve 16 years in prison Tuesday for robbing 11 Cuyahoga County stores in just six months.

Wilson, dubbed the “Bearded Bandit” by law enforcement, will serve the time immediately following the conclusion of another 10-year sentence stemming from a bank robbery in Lake County.

The ex-collegiate football player and wrestler donned a fake beard and glasses during each of the stick-ups.

Wilson was arrested in April 2015 after the Lake County holdup.

Sheriff’s deputies noticed Wilson’s truck, which matched the description of the bank robber’s vehicle. He was found with dried glue on his face and the stolen cash.
